“Hand crafting and shaving”

Nanaha Co., Ltd. is a company that sends the “new form of Japan” to the world through “mattcha”. They provide high quality mattcha in menus that are arranged modernly, such as mattacha latte. The space inside the shop is desired to be a “modern tearoom”, not a “Japanese style tea room”. According to the owner, it is a way of expressing their feeling to make a shop that allows the customers to enjoy the traditional Japanese culture with a modern interpretation.

Legends say that Rikyu ‘s tea ceremony was getting perfection at 1580’s(Tensho piriod). Because tea tools had come out that designed  by himself, this is a one of that reason.

Among them “Raku ware” is made by, forming soil naturally by the both hands without using the potter’s wheel, and then, shaving extra part by pallet, to getting shape better. Through these two processes it completely expressed the mind of Rikyu’s “Wabi”.

This time, I tried to recreate, the space of  “Wabi” that Rikyu was seeking, by “hand crafting” and “shaving”.

In fact, I expressed a tea room where feeling human warmth by hand crafting curve line.
