“Catching the flow of time”

Nanaha Co., Ltd. is a company that sends the “new form of Japan” to the world through “mattcha”. They provide high quality mattcha in menus that are arranged modernly, such as mattacha latte. The space inside the shop is desired to be a “modern tearoom”, not a “Japanese style tea room”. According to the owner, it is a way of expressing their feeling to make a shop that allows the customers to enjoy the traditional Japanese culture with a modern interpretation.

A.D.1587, Rikyu, was served in the conquest of Shimazu by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and, held a tea ceremony in Hosakijinomiya.
Rikyu donated the antique lantern, but it didn’t have the name and year of made that normally should be there are not inscribed. According legend, it made before 237 years ago even at that time.
This is Rikyu’s unique and simple spirit of “Wabi-cha”.
The nana’s green tea Fukuoka Parco was a renovating project.
So I, proposed design of “catching the flow of time”, used existing walls and furniture as much as possible, applied old materials and aging paint around them.
