“Water”

Koshigaya is a town deeply connected with water throughout its landscape and culture.

In the world of chanoyu (Japanese tea ceremony), water is also an essential element.
Water is always sprinkled in the tea garden (roji), and during a formal tea gathering. As a matter of fact,  water is sprinkled three times:
once before the guests enter, then before the intermission (nakadachi), when the guests return to the garden, and finally as a closing gesture.
This act of sprinkling water conveys a message: “We are fully prepared. Please, come in.”

With that in mind, we sought to integrate the meaning behind this ritual use of “water” into the interior of nana’s green tea, as a way to express, “Feel free to drop by anytime.

In practice, we applied images of random ripples to the floor, and created a mist-like effect by using gradient patterns rising from the floor on benches, chairs, and the counter.

Here, through the motif of water, I hope this becomes a place where hearts can connect.
