“The Seven Rules of Rikyu”

Nanaha Co., Ltd. is a company that sends the “new form of Japan” to the world through “mattcha”. They provide high quality mattcha in menus that are arranged modernly, such as mattacha latte. The space inside the shop is desired to be a “modern tearoom”, not a “Japanese style tea room”. According to the owner, it is a way of expressing their feeling to make a shop that allows the customers to enjoy the traditional Japanese culture with a modern interpretation.

There are “The Seven Rules of Rikyu”, everyone who learns tea ceremony should know. Those are not the rules to be observed but the considerations to be kept in your mind and also teachings of Rikyu how to give hospitality to guests.

“The Seven Rules of Rikyu”
Make satisfying bowl of tea
Lay the charcoal so that it heats the water
Provide a sense of coolness in summer and warmth in winter
Arrange the flowers essentially as they are in the field
Do everything ahead of time
Be prepared in case it should rain
Act with at most consideration toward guests

In nana’s green tea Shinagawa I try to represent the rules by menu, service, equipment, graphic and interior design.
