They provide high quality mattcha in menus that are arranged modernly, such as mattacha latte. The space inside the shop is designed to be a “modern tearoom”, not a “Japanese style tea room”. According to the owner, it is a way of expressing their feeling to make a shop that allows the customers to enjoy the traditional Japanese culture with a modern interpretation.

In medieval times, there was a style of tea ceremony called “rinkan-chanoyu (bathing tea ceremony)”. People loved to bathe since the old times and they had used bathing as a way to entertain guests. “Rinkan-chanoyu” is a tea ceremony combined with bathing. The host prepares a bath for the guests. As soon as the guests enter the house, they take a bath and change into washed kimonos before starting a tea ceremony with refreshed feelings. It was a casual type of tea ceremony, different from Sen-no-Riyu’s “wabi-cha”. Thus, I had made a tea space with a sense of more relaxation and hospitality under the concept of “rinkan-chanoyu”.

Photos by Keisuke Miyamoto

< PRESS >
Jutaku Interiour Kyukyoku Guide 2017 issue
Shoten Kenchiku Oct. 2014 Issue

nana’s green tea NORTHPORT MALLKanagawa, Japan / 2013 “Rinkan-chanoyu” Nanaha Co, Ltd is a c […]

[3
